Abstract
This text discusses the background and results of an advising project executed by Cenpec at a municipal public school located in the Heliópolis district, in the municipality of São Paulo, whose Educational Policy Project established construction of close community relations, understanding that the school can play a role as an agent of social change. Using this guideline and in an effort to resolve the more immediate consequences of faculty absenteeism - such as the need to send students home – the school underwent a huge overhaul of its internal organization, adopting the Escola da Ponte of Portugal as a model. Students no longer needed to be sent home, but there was a new challenge: professionally train teachers so that they could teach under new conditions. Cenpec was called on to intervene in this context and, after
diagnosing possibilities and limitations, it chose a project that would outline expectations for teachers regarding learning and construction of reading scripts.
